Lando
It's my first time that I try to work with this tool. And I get "unknown host" about a web location addressed with http://geocities.... How have to be addressed the sites with ftp ? Many thanks [moved from Software by spinynorman]
tyme
Could you please be more specific about what tool/program you're using? Normally, with ftp, you don't include the proceeding http://, you just give the address, i.e. geocities.com
scarecrow
http:// is not FTP... although a few FTP clients do manage http downloads as well.

I've a web space that I address as the browser does......I would upload data to my web space . ftp geocities.com/xxxini and I get >>>>>> ftp: geocities.com/xxxini: unknown host
neddie
Do you pay for your geocities account? I mean, did you subscribe for a "plus" or "pro" or something? If you've just got the free web space, there is no ftp access provided - you have to use a browser and their file manager to upload files. scarecrow
Huh? A web browser can't upload to an FTP server... you need an FTP client for that. You can use their directions here although you don't have to use the same FTP clients, of course.
neddie
A web browser can't upload to an FTP server... you need an FTP client for that.Yes it can. But in geocities' case, it uses a web page with a form, with an "upload files" button where you can submit the files up to the web server. But that's http, not ftp.
