ffi
I am trying to install sam linux on a really old p2 compaq laptop, but i get the following error when booting: no ide channels found [ok] searching for the loop image: [done] error: unable to mount the livecd dropping you to a limited shell I have tried Mandriva one 2007 Spring and it boots, SAM also boots from my computer and the media checks out according to the build in mediacheck (which doesn't run from the laptop either)
scarecrow
Try all the usual troubleshooting switches... Namely noapic nolapic acpi=off nopcmcia earlymodules=piix (not necessarily all of them at once)
ffi
in the meantime i googled somemore around and found this solution: irqprobe all-generic-ide but the cd is so slow to start up, it takes over 15 mins to go to the desktop. This computer runs XP a browser, dvd shrink and a virus scanner but acrobat is too much would installing a linux distro put some life into this computer? If so which one, would SAM be okay? It looks really nice, slick and very familiar to MDV (it's based on pclinuxos 2007)
scarecrow
I'd put my money on Zenwalk or Vector.
