I have a wireless card in another pc which has Ralink RT2561 chipset in it but Mandriva 2007 will recognise it only after installing the windoze driver for it i have set everythin up as per usual BUT i can not get online. In MCC it shows up as working fine but when i go to connect by clicking the icon on the task bar (dont know what its called sorry) it tells me my network name and also that it is down?

whats causing that?

thanks in advance

If you have added your standard software repositories (Mandriva, Contrib, PLF, free and non-free), you can add the 'rt61-firmware' package using: urpmi rt61-firmware

at the command line or search for the package in RPMdrake. You will not need the Windows drivers.

However, I have been experiencing a slight problem when configuring my wireless card.

I set up my son's computer in my home office. Once set up, I shut it down and put it aside. I later decided that I wanted to fix some minor quirks, so I reconnected it and the wireless would not work. After spending the entire day trying to get it back up, I finally got it working again. I fixed those quirks I referred to and shut down the computer. I later moved the computer to my son's room and when connecting it and turning it on, the wireless card was not working again.

I don't know what the problem is. I have not had time to just sit there and try to figure out what I did to get it working again. But I've repeated the same steps as well as trying other things and am still unable to get the wireless card to connect to my router.

Oh and just for the record, this machine is running Mandriva 2007.1 Free i586 with KDE.

Thanks for that i think we are both running the same version of OS, i have tried most of the day to get it up and running coincidently on my sons pc but to no avail and the funny part is i only bought that card because it was supposed to be supported by Linux?

i will give it another try with what you have told me

it's well supported, and the driver works well, mandriva obviously messed up in providing their support for it.
