grendal
Welcome to the board! I use the same modem. Try changing the setup to /dev/ttyS1. and see if that helps. Have you tried to connect or just query the modem? On my old machine, it would sometimes not find the modem during the query, but would dial out and connect. Also, make sure it is turned on and properly plugged in. That can be another problem that is easily overlooked and fixed. (and I'm not saying it has ever happend to me or to you). Guest kr4ey
grendal. Thank you I will try your suggestions. I did do a query and it did not work. I am also going to try the wvconfig suggestion here
scarecrow
The first time you try initializing your modem you have to run kppp with superuser priviledges kdesu kppp Normally, you have four serial ports (virtual or not), you may list them by ls /dev/ttyS* Try all of them in the root kppp, although the modem should normally be at either ttyS0 or ttyS1. Of course wvdial (as root again) should also work. Edited April 11, 2007 by scarecrow
Guest kr4ey
I still have not been able to get this modem to work on this computer. I think I have a Hardware, IRQ problem. There are 4 devices on IRQ 9. I will be getting a faster computer next week so let's see how that goes. That HP 7840 computer is way to slow. I will see if taking out the internal modem and network card helps.
