Open Source and the UK Government

Can't agree more. Makes me really happy, and a warm inside knowing we're getting Linux out there to more and more numbers.

French Government will have 1154 desktops using Linux by June. Ubuntu is the chosen distro, a bit like Peugeot.

Our gov has had a commitment to open source in place for some time and recently committed to more installations.

The problem is that they are doing it the wrong way around IMHO - they are focusing on implementing Linux and OSS on desktops - I think that internal systems should be migrated first and desktops last.

I just had the bright idea to tell work that I'd made an anti-spam solution on Linux, that I recently tested and blocks 88% to 90% of spam.

Comparing to specialist vendors who make such products, that do anywhere between 90% and 95% blocking, I think it's pretty damn good.

Now I think I'll have to implement my solution, since it'll save them having to buy a solution now! Few days of work for me.....but fun making it.
