my college's network requires that i register my computer using a .sh program. i have no idea how to open said program. this is my final hope. the school's network help is a joke, and they have no experience with linux. any help would be hot!

If they haven't got any experience with linux, then where did you get a linux shell script from? If they gave it to you and said that it will work with linux, then go to a console, go to the directory where you saved the file, and type

./filename.sh

and see what happens. Or ask them how to run it, whoever gave it to you.
