Guest phreak
hi, i have a new Toshiba Satellite L30-134 notebook with a xp home sp2 license and i tried(for about 10 times) to install mandriva 2007 from the free dvd and i keep getting the same problem...after the perfect instalation process, and post-install configuration i try to boot it from the grub boot loader, here is where everything starts, it starts to boot but after it gets to "initialising hal daemon.....[ok]" and "initialising alsa drivers....[ok]" it stops, and i can wait for as long as i want but it just doesn't boot....please help.... ps: i use mandriva on another computer instaled from the same dvd, and it works just fine please give a hand, if you can...thanks [Moved from Installing Mandriva - arctic. And welcome aboard :) ]
arctic
When the boot process starts, press "i" for some seconds. It will let you start the interactive booting where you can decice if you want to start services or not (It will ask "Start service XY? Yes/No"). Try to boot the system without enabling the service that comes after alsa. Once you get there, log in normally, open the Mandriva Control Center (MCC) and check if all of your hardware got detected (In case that you can boot up till the end...) And please post the hardware specs of your laptop.

Guest phreak
big question...i had a look on stuff on the dvd, and in some htmf file it said that md is compatible only with i586 cpu's, and not with i386 and i486, is my cpu supported? i mean, i have a celeron m cpu...this laptop model is about 5 months old....i think that it should work... Greg2
ok, the i thing upon boot doesn't work...it has no effect..:( Do you mean you could not enter the interactive booting mode? Did you press 'and hold' for a bit the 'i' key when the boot starts?

ianw1974
Check the BIOS for a plug and play OS option. My Toshiba laptop has this, you want it to be controlled by the BIOS, and not controlled by the OS.
