Dutchmen
I just installed Mandriva 2007, logged in to gnome and worked with it for a time. I decided to try KDE and found it very impressive. But now, I noticed the login and password box have disappeared every time I boot up. What happened to the login box? zibi1981
What do You mean by "disappeared"? Is it that after booting up You see the text console? If so, have You been trying to install something on Your Mandriva, graphic card drivers i.e., before this had happend?
arctic
When you are at the command line, check if the graphical user interface (GUI) still works by launching startx once you have entered your username and password. If this is so, then check if you have the kdm package installed and selected as login manager in the MCC. If the GUI refuses to start, then you somehow borked up the graphical configuration. In that case, run XFdrake and set up the graphics card again.
Dutchmen
Let me describe the situation a little better, now when I turn on the computer, KDE boots up without a login just like windows. My user name appears in the counsel on the command line before the cursor. Sort of like a auto login.
Mhn
You can change that behavior from the KDE control center ( -> System Administration -> Login Manager )

Mhn
$ startxFatal server error: Server is already active for display 0 If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again. This is interesting, What does this mean? Like it says, the server is already active for display 0. :P "The server" means the X-server, simplified "the graphical interface" you use when running for example KDE or gnome. 'startx' would start it if it wasn't running.
