ilia_kr
Hi there, I posted a similar topic here earlier, but since then a long time have past, so I want to start from scratch. I've installed Ubuntu 6.06 (not the newest, but that is what got). It works great, even detects all my USB devices correctly. Only one little problem, the screen looks like this. Please help me solving this. My xorg.conf: # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "Files" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi" # path to defoma fonts FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" EndSection Section "Module" Load "i2c" Load "bitmap" Load "ddc" Load "dri" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "int10" Load "type1" Load "vbe" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "kbd" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "wacom" Identifier "stylus" Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to # /dev/input/event # for USB Option "Type" "stylus" Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "wacom" Identifier "eraser" Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to # /dev/input/event # for USB Option "Type" "eraser" Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "wacom" Identifier "cursor" Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to # /dev/input/event # for USB Option "Type" "cursor" Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "3Dfx Interactive, Inc. ianw1974
I noticed you used a camera to take this, can you use the screenshot feature itself within Gnome? This should be available in one of the menu options. Taking with a camera would introduce other problems due to refresh rates, etc. I can see a bit of the line issue, but maybe is something to do with refresh rates, video card driver problem, or something like that. Unfortunately I don't use Ubuntu, so not sure where you can reconfigure this. Also, the screenshot feature will help us see it more clearly, without other artifacts being added to the picture from the digital camera picture. ilia_kr
When i take a screenshot, the screen looks ok, that is why i use a camera.
tyme
I notice your monitor section is missing refresh rate settings: Section "Monitor" Identifier "L1750SQ" Option "DPMS" EndSection Do you know what your monitors vertical refresh and horizontal sync rates are? They should be in the manual, or, if you know your monitor model, we can try to hunt down the info. It's likely the system is trying to auto-detect these rates and is getting incorrect information for one reason or another.
ilia_kr
Adding monitor sync rates doesn't help. The screen looks the same.
Artificial Intelligence
<ctrl>+<alt>+<F1> sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_backup sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg This should help
Gul Dukat
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_backup sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg What does the -phigh-option do/stand for? Just curious.
ilia_kr
Nothing, only resolution got smaller. Something else? What might cause xorg 7.0 not to work, while 6.9 works fine with same drivers?
arctic
Section "Device"Identifier "3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo Banshee" Driver "vesa" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection You have a bad driver selected (vesa) AND missing refresh rates in your config file.
