willisoften
I just realised I specified (ish) / 500 /swap 400 /usr 4000 /var 1000 /home 8500 what I've got is / 5000 / swap 128 /home 8000 and a bit ?? how srange is that! Lets hope its lack of familiarity and not a serious problem. I've even got sound working so I'm gonna leave it in peace.

johnnyv
aRTee, Ur / is mounted as ext3. So you do not have my problem. neither do i [john@bob john]$ cat /proc/mounts | grep root rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 /dev/root / ext3 rw 0 0 [john@bob john]$ df -T Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda1 ext3 411M 61M 329M 16% / /dev/hda6 ext3 52G 36G 16G 69% /home /dev/hdd1 vfat 38G 33G 4.5G 89% /media /dev/hda9 ext3 14G 33M 14G 1% /tmp /dev/hda7 ext3 3.9G 1.8G 2.0G 48% /usr /dev/hda8 ext3 3.9G 88M 3.6G 3% /var [john@bob john]$ cat /proc/mounts rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 /dev/root / ext3 rw 0 0 none /dev devfs rw 0 0 none /proc proc rw 0 0 none /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs rw 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 rw 0 0 /dev/hdd1 /media vfat rw 0 0 none /mnt/cdrom supermount ro 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount rw,sync 0 0 /dev/hda9 /tmp ext3 rw 0 0 /dev/hda7 /usr ext3 rw 0 0 /dev/hda8 /var ext3 rw 0 0 [john@bob john]$ everything is as i specified, i only kept my home and media partitions unformated to preserve the data. My other computer is ok as well. Hmm very strange, have you tried burning to iso's and install from cd yet? I wonder when they are going to put some info on the 9.1 errata page! http://www.mandrake-linux.com/en/91errata.php3 - is empty still. My systems seem to be running great, DVD's play fine which apparantly some people have been having problems with.

Guest joehill
I am really seriously looking at the next release of Debian or EvilEntity (if they are for real).
willisoften
I am really seriously looking at the next release of Debian or EvilEntity (if they are for real). I've played with Debian, and absolutely could not get ADSL without recompiling the kernel. Libranet is IMO the way to go for Debian like system. Although I couldn't get ADSL there either I know people in the UK who have. I've just finished a couple of days with Slackware people who rave about it... WHY? I did get everything I wanted to work. BUT it did have some stability issues and it's implementation of KDE 3.1 was a little shakey. pkgtool was quite good but I don't know that it was any better than rpm_dependency_hell it certainly threw me a few wobblers. If mandrake folds I might try Lycoris, if that doesn't suit I'll head to Libranet.
