tyme
Not really...there are various pieces of software that do some of the same things (GIMP, Inkscape, HTML editor of your choice) but not one application that does what ImageReady does. tyme
which is the best one for gif images/animations thanks in advance GIMP is basically like photoshop in it's goals, although it's lacking in some of the finer tools. Inkscape is along the lines of illustrator. I usually use GIMP for most of my image creation/manipulation, and although I know it can do GIF animations I've never tried to do it. tyme
you can always try gimpshop which makes the layout of the controls and such more photoshoppy...not sure if that's what you meant by looks or not :)

neddie
you can always try gimpshop which makes the layout of the controls and such more photoshoppy... Question - is this a little patch on top of Gimp, or is it (as that link suggests) a fork? Which would mean, a whole new application to be installed instead of Gimp? And is the only way to get it via some rpm.torrent, or is there a more official source, like urpmi? I saw this mentioned recently by some new linux distro, but assumed it was just a typo! tyme
They patch gimp to change the interface layout, it doesn't change the actual function of the program. It's more of an interface fork and not a function fork...but I still wouldn't classify it as a fork, as it simply: modifies the menu structure to more closely resemble Photoshop and adjusts the program's terminology to match Adobe's.Usually when you think of "fork" there's added functionality or a change in direction...not just a menu structure change. And, when it first came out, it was just a patch.
