Hi,

i just installed from a dvd mandriva 2007,the free edition.

But rpmdrake doesn't work at all.

and there is no way to make it start, nor from the menu of kde,

or from "administer your computer" or from the shell (rpmdrake).

if i do that from shell.. this is what happens:

[root@localhost lo]# rpmdrake

esamino il file synthesis [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation DVD.cz]

esamino il file synthesis [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.main_updates.cz]

Gtk-WARNING **: Theme file for default has no name

Gtk-WARNING **: Theme file for default has no directories

Segmentation fault

[root@localhost lo]#

but if i install an rpm with the urpmi command from shell,it is installed

properly...

i am not expert at all.. so i really don't know what i can be...

if u need logs, tell me.. (and tell me where to find .. )

i have a laptop fujitsu siemens amilo m1420 , with centrino 1.6 Ghz.

before that the mdk 2005 le was perfectly working.

to install it, i formatted the root partition, while i kept the home partition

(i have also a swap partition and the windows xp partition).

thanks

Have you applied updates to your system yet? rpmdrake was broken on default install, and unless you got updates, it would explain why it's not working for you.

I don't have any problems with it, but I tend to use the command line mostly anyway. If the updates don't fix your problem you can install the old rpmdrake tools, with:

urpmi old_rpmdrake

no,no update yet...

u see,i have not rpmdrak, and since i am not an expert,i don't know any other way to do that...

if u tell me the updates i have to do.. and how...

another question...

it's just enough to type urpmi old-rpmdrake to install it?

or doi have to download the rpm of the old rpmdrake?

if so,where to find that?

thanks so much...

Yes.

First you have to become root, do so by opening a Konsole-shell, then write

su
(insert root's password)
urpmi old_rpmdrake

(press ctrl+d or write exit to stop beeing root)

Oh, and first use Easy-Urpmi to set up the internet repositories, otherwise you would only get a "no package with that name found".

You know... i don't think it's a problem of rpmdrake only.. it happens also with other progrmas.

I open it, i see the icon with clessidra, then it doesn't open.

it happens with gimp, or other program. But it depends.. sometimes it opens, sometimes not..

now i wanted to open gimp to change some photos, but NOW (other times yes) i cannot load it.

or for example, when i am using mozilla browser and i have to upload a file somewhere, i click on upload,

then it try to opens the window to select the file and suddenly all the open windows of mozilla disappear.

i don't know why..

If you can't use old_MandrivaUpdate to update, you can do it with:

urpmi.update -a
urpmi --update --auto-select

no, but i think that now i am going to do that..

about gimp, for example, this is the back trace of the error:

Have you installed updates yet?

If you can't use old_MandrivaUpdate to update, you can do it with:

urpmi.update -a
urpmi --update --auto-select

my dear...

i followed your suggestion.I made the update exactly as u told me,but the problem is really the same,

completely unchanged...

i need gimp and other programs...

what can i do?

do u need logs to help me.. :)

I think that is what is going wrong, in your /home are the hidden programm configutations files. The configuration files from 2007 are somehow different from 2005.

I did the same with 2006 and it went wrong.

I think the best is to backup youre data and do a clean install with 2007.

I think this is a problem with the gnome libraries as the segfaults happen with gtk programs. Probably a missing library

Are you using Gnome?

I concur with the previous responses: First run easy-urpmi. This will configure the sources from where you get your updates. A link was given in a previous post. It does not require the gui so it should work. The required sources are "main" and "main_updates". The others are facultative (for now).

Then run from the command line:

urpmi --auto-select

This should detect any unsatisfied dependencies etc. and suggest to fix those.

I'm not sure its because of old config files in the home directory  . I upgraded from 10.1 to 2007 and got nothing as serious as segfaults.

That is not a bug, thus you should not report it. A fresh install of Mandriva (just like any other distro) will try to use the theme that is defined by the config file, which is created once you start the app/change the theme. If the new install doesn not have the theme which is defined in the config file installed (for whatever reason), you can run into display problems.
