daniewicz
Welcome to MandrivaUsers.org! You need to change the video card & monitor you specified during the installation. There appears to be an error. Type "su" and then enter the password for root. Then type "XFdrake" to reconfigure your video card and monitor. daniewicz
I do not own an ATI card. I did a search and found this link with a response from ianw1974, our resident ATI expert: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...098&hl=x700 From the link: An easier way to do the ati drivers is to run this command from a terminal: urpmi dkms-ati However, visit the easyurpmi link at the top of this page first, and add sources for main, contrib, updates, plf-free and plf-nonfree. Otherwise, you'll not be able to use dkms and ati. This injects the module into the kernel on startup, and you should hopefully find your system will work after this. You will of course need to run mcc, and configure the display and choose an ATI driver instead of VESA to get it to work. daniewicz
and what exactly is this terminal you speak of? The "command line" interface. The "DOS prompt". If you are using KDE then it is called Konsole. On my Mandriva 2005 installation, Konsole is under the System menu. The process of Installing the ATI driver using the urpmi command will be the same for a mobility radeon and a radeon x700.

ffi
I think the mirror is down, the best 2 mirrors are distrib-coffee in france and anorien in the UK, mandriva employees maintain them. btw: terminal outputs are nice because you can copy 'n' paste them and don't need to take screenshots ;) Edited January 1, 2007 by ffi

mitch
An easier way to do the ati drivers is to run this command from a terminal: urpmi dkms-ati i just finished the easyurpmi thing and then i went back into the terminal and typed urpmi dkms-ati and now it says [root@localhost Desktop]# urpmi dkms-ati One of the following packages is needed: 1- kernel-source-stripped-2.6.17.5mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 2- kernel-tmb-source-stripped-2.6.18.5-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The stripped Linux source code for kernel-tmb-2.6.18.5-1mdv (to install) 3- kernel-linus-source-2.6.19.1-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 4- kernel-linus-source-2.6.18.3-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 5- kernel-multimedia-source-stripped-2.6.17.13-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The stripped source code for the Linux kernel-multimedia-2.6.17.13-3mdv (to install) 6- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.19-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 7- kernel-tmb-source-stripped-2.6.17.13-4mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The stripped Linux source code for kernel-tmb-2.6.17.13-4mdv (to install) 8- kernel-source-2.6.17.5mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 9- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.18.3-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 10- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.18.rc7.1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 11- kernel-linus-source-2.6.18.5-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 12- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.19-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 13- kernel-linus-source-2.6.19-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 14- kernel-tmb-source-2.6.17.13-4mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The Linux source code for kernel-tmb-2.6.17.13-4mdv (to install) 15- kernel-tmb-source-2.6.18.5-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The Linux source code for kernel-tmb-2.6.18.5-1mdv (to install) 16- kernel-linus-source-2.6.18.2-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 17- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.19.1-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 18- kernel-multimedia-source-2.6.17.13-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel-multimedia-2.6.17.13-3mdv (to install) 19- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.18.5-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 20- kernel-linus-source-2.6.18.rc7.1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 21- kernel-linus-source-2.6.19-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 22- kernel-linus-source-stripped-2.6.18.2-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586 : The source code of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) What is your choice? (1-22) what am i supposed to pick? haha
ffi
type uname -r to check your kernel and select the source version of your kernel, most likely it will be number one however. Kernel sources come in 2 flavours stripped and non-stripped. Non-stripped is about 200 MB and stripped 40 MB. I guess the non-stripped version isn't really necessary unless you want to recompile the kernel yourself.
