I've never seen a pcmcia sound card, since normally the built in sound works. BTW are you sure the built in sound cannot work with Linux? It may just be that you have not set the right parameters - I know from my compaq armada PIII 650 that with mandriva 2007 for the first time, the sound doesn't work. scarecrow Posted December 18, 2006 Report Share Posted December 18, 2006 Realtek HDA audio cards didn't work right out of the box with Mandy 2006 (a newer alsa version was needed) but it should work with 2007.0 or 2007.1 without issues. I bought a Toshiba laptop and had no sound, and realised on the external casing, there is a volume control in the form of a black wheel that you can use to turn the sound up and down.
