jofg
How do I link Firefox 2 to Mplayer so that .mov and wmv files open up? Got Mplayer to link to Firefox! Edited December 17, 2006 by jofg
Steve Scrimpshire
Don't put them here: /usr/local/lib/codecs/ put them here: /usr/lib/codecs/ (If mplayer still does not see them, try putting them in the top-level directory of just /usr/lib) Mandriva does not use /usr/local/whatever, it uses /usr/whatever If you ever install something from source in Mandriva, make sure that when you run ./configure, you run it with at least this option: ./configure --prefix=/usr (the default will be /usr/local). If you don't understand this now, you will understand it as you gain experience. Edited December 10, 2006 by Steve Scrimpshire
daniewicz
Shrug. I use both /usr/local/lib/codecs/ and /usr/local/lib/win32/ with the downloaded codecs from all-20050412.tar.bz2 All is well with Firefox 2.0 and mplayer 1.0-1.pre7.20051220.0.1.102plf

daniewicz
You appear to be new to linux. It would probably be better (easier) if you installed software using urpmi. At the top of the MUB web page is a link to Easy-Urpmi. I would install Mplayer using urpmi. If you are using KDE I would also install KPlayer. KPlayer uses MPlayer as the backend for playing audio and video files and streams. If using KPlayer, there is no need to install GMPlayer (GUI for MPlayer). For more background concerning urpmi, see this from the FAQ's: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=4455 Edited December 10, 2006 by daniewicz

daniewicz
If you want to use MPlayer for streaming video, a firefox plugin is needed. I installed mplayerplugin-2.80-2mdk.i586.rpm. This rpm will place mplayerplug-in.so and mplayerplug-in.xpt in ~/.mozilla/plugins.
jofg
I blew it at Easy urpmi. Now at install of mplayer plugin rpm I get -> unable to access hdlist file of contrib, medium ignored I am going to look more into Linux commands, folder structure, and the basics of Linux before I tackle any more tasks. Thanks.
Kieth
In 'configure your computer', go to 'software management', then 'rpm', then delete 'contrib'. After that, go back to easy urpmi and reinstall another 'contrib'.
jofg
OK I found a couple of million dollar downloads. FlashPlayer 9 beta -> http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html The plugin that links Mplayer to Firefox, automatically -> http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/download.php The Mplayer plugin, can now view streaming QuickTime movies, at least this one -> http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/spider-man_3/ the FlashPlayer plugin, can view YouTube videos, but in some sites, in only plays the audio and a black screen. This is somewhat better than the previous version that I had, 7, which did nothing at all. I don't know if this will ban me or put me on probation for linking these sites, but here goes, as I mentioned YouTube.com and Yahoo games work on my system, but these sites only play audio and a black screen -> http://www.foxnews.com/ these sites are FlashPlayer required, right-click on the video sreen link and it states the version 7, even though I installed version 9 beta. How do I get sites that only play audio and a black screen to play? thanks for all your help. Edited January 6, 2007 by jofg
