mystified
Can someone give me a general idea of how much space a typical Mandriva 2007 installation uses?
pmpatrick
Depends what you mean by typical but you could probably get it down to 2.5 GB and still have a fairly decent install. I usually won't install it on a partition under 5 GB just to leave room for other things.
AussieJohn
Hello MYSTI. With 120GbSATA HDDs, I have set / at 10Gb. A thing to consider is that although the OS will take up to 2.5Gb a number of applications use /temp e.g. K3B, Gimp just to name a couple I can think of at the moment. And burning an iso you can run out of space pretty quickly. Yes 10Gb is a good guide for / on most large HDDs. Cheers. John.
ianw1974
Typical normally is just KDE, so you're looking somewhere between 1GB-2GB. I usually select most of the packages down the left hand side on the selection screen, and on the right just KDE and Gnome. That usually does an install about 2.2GB. arctic
I stripped / down to ~1,6 GB on my notebooks, running Gnome. With Windowmaker or Flux, it can be less than 1 GB that you need ... depending on the apps you want of course.
mystified
Ok, thanks guys. It should work then. I have my original hard drive in this computer and my first install was Mandrake 8.1. I let it auto-partition and it gave me about 2.6 gbs. I installed development in 2006 and it used up all my hard drive space. I was thinking with 2007, leaving out development it should fit. I know I can resize but if it will work then I'm not going to bother.
