Hi all

That is my first time installing any linux distribution. So I need help about installing Mandriva 2007 free, besides windows xp.

I have a sata harddrive partitioned into 3 partitions (c:10GB, d:50GB, e:50GB all fat32), with Windows XP Professional installed on partition C. I need to install Mandriva on only 15GB from partition E, but I need the ability to boot either from Windows or Mandriva.

By the way, could I mount fat32 drive and a CR-RW.

Sorry for my bad English. ;)

Thanks in advance.

Just run the Mandriva install and during the partition choose custom partitioning, and mount d as / (root) - you also should consider making some space for a swap partition (this is like windows' page file) - about twice your RAM (though above 1GB you may not need swap). Once you partition select the partition it will install, should detect the Windows install without any trouble, and then will set up a bootloader that will allow you to choose Windows or Linux on boot.

(and welcome to the board ;) )

You may also wish to create an extra partition for /home (My Documents for Linux......)

That way if you destroy your install at any point, you can format the / partition and your docs will be safe in /home.

If unsure, just ask :D
