I installed 2007 powerpack,I re-instlaled twonkyMedia server,a UPnP server I used to stream videos and music to my living room, but they cannot connect.

In addition I can't conect to the server frommy windows machine

however I can connect on the linusx machine by going to localhost

Is there some kind of firewall messing things up? looks like shorewall was running, I stopped it but it makes no difference.

I think I may have figured it out:

shorewall was running, but stopping it still didn't fix it.

I also had to stop iptables

I'm behing a NAT so not too concerned about firewalling, howeve should I choose to re-enable shorewall, how do I administer it topoke "holes" in it? I have several servers running on this machine.

NAT is basic firewall capability, but won't stop you completely as it's just doing network address translation and nothing else. If you have a hardware firewall with stateful packet inspection, then you shouldn't need shorewall on your desktop. I used to run with two hardware firewalls and shorewall. Now I only use one hardware.
