papaschtroumpf
I installed 2007 powerpack,I re-instlaled twonkyMedia server,a UPnP server I used to stream videos and music to my living room, but they cannot connect. In addition I can't conect to the server frommy windows machine however I can connect on the linusx machine by going to localhost Is there some kind of firewall messing things up? looks like shorewall was running, I stopped it but it makes no difference. papaschtroumpf
I think I may have figured it out: shorewall was running, but stopping it still didn't fix it. I also had to stop iptables I'm behing a NAT so not too concerned about firewalling, howeve should I choose to re-enable shorewall, how do I administer it topoke "holes" in it? I have several servers running on this machine.
ianw1974
NAT is basic firewall capability, but won't stop you completely as it's just doing network address translation and nothing else. If you have a hardware firewall with stateful packet inspection, then you shouldn't need shorewall on your desktop. I used to run with two hardware firewalls and shorewall. Now I only use one hardware.
