michaelcole
you should not have to redo the Internet sharing again it should be set up for good now unless some program gets removed or config changed.. On the squid not sure sorry.
ianw1974
Squid uses proxy port 3128. Why you setting 9695 in bitcomet? You should be using the same as squid. Also, what port are you passing through squid? I need to know this to get it working.
r_balest
i used 3128 and 80 on http_port [squid] "Also, what port are you passing through squid? " mm...what do you mean by this, ian? i don't get it quite well... sorry... i only set things to port 80...on my windows client
ianw1974
Bittorrent uses a port, and it would be blocked if squid isn't configured to allow it, especially if you're using bitcomet pointing to squid. I would suggest not configuring bitcomet to use squid since it's a http proxy, and not for anything else. You mentioned port 9695 before which is confusing me. However, we shouldn't need to configure squid to sort your bittorrent problem, just remove the proxy config from bitcomet.
r_balest
ok I add in squid.conf acl Torrent 9695 http_access Torrent the result in /var/log/squid/access.log: 1159567162.634 11892 192.168.9.46 TCP_MISS/200/4273 GET http://100.spammer/bitcomet/v0.59/sea...earch_en_us.mht uh if i dont use the proxy, it wont' run either... uh if i dont use the proxy, it wont' run either... the port 9695 is the default from installing bitcomet... i haven't changed it... ianw1974
Squid won't be blocking it, squid is only for HTTP and nothing else. What is in the proxy settings in bitcomet? If it's pointing to squid - REMOVE IT. The port 9695 should be the port bittorrent uses for listening on connections. If you don't configure a proxy, and your Linux machine is setup for internet sharing, then it will access the internet fine. Your rule is also wrong, it should have been: http_access allow Torrent and this also depends where you put it in the file, if you put it below the http_access deny all, then it won't work. Rules are read top to bottom. But as I said, squid is for http, and it doesn't need configuring for bittorrent, so remove it all. And don't use squid for your proxy in bitcomet. And if it won't run, then it's a problem with your configuration of your system, not squid. You obviously have bitcomet configured to use the proxy when it shouldn't be, or you have something else like a firewall blocking it. My last post before this one said remove the proxy config from bitcomet. And if you don't have proxy configured in bitcomet, then you have something else causing the problem. michaelcole
http://www.squid-cache.org/Scripts/ Look here there are many packages to give you different reports that you may want..
ianw1974
You can also use webmin and install it on the machine, and you can use the web browser to access the system and manage it too, and read log files, etc. But michael's example of scripts for creating reports would be ideal for your bosses, etc.
r_balest
umm michael and ian, i've installed webmin and i couldn't see the log files. where is it? i've tried calamaris menu, and squid menu, but couldn't find the log. Thanks EDIT: uh i just had a meeting with my boss and he's seen the squid proxy server...but one thing he want that he wants to see the Current Activities, not just Access log (history). is this possible using Squid? so he wants to see who is downloading, who is browsing what Real Time... please help if you guys know something. Thanks Edited November 10, 2006 by r_balest
ianw1974
Currently at the airport waiting for my flight :P Can't think if anything realtime at the minute, and cannot check just now as I've only got Windows on my lappy right now. But you can check realtime from the command prompt to see what sessions are open. I think also the log files should also show what has been accessed as well. I guess really what you need is some sort of reporting. Have a look at the squid website, I think it's squidcache.org or something like that, you might have to google to find the exactly link. They have a load of utils and stuff on here that's really neat to extend the functionality of squid and get these other extras working for you. r_balest
wow, ian.. where r u goin? :P btw, i'm goin to find the report and I'll browse to squid website. I'll post the result here... and... i got a big problem here.. the bittorent is down. I can't download it. help... so this is it: on bitcomet: Listen Port = anything... doesn't matter, right? Proxy : proxy tipe = HTTP 1.1 , proxy server = 192.168.9.213 [Linux], port = 80 Use proxy only for http / tracker connection : Yes and i don't set anything in the squid. can i actually make this work? coz it doesn't :( and just get scolded... haha Thanks
ianw1974
i'd actually just not use the proxy for bittorrent, then it'll bypass it and work anyway. it's far easier than trying to get it to work with squid. although i think you said it wouldn't work when you don't configure it with squid, which seems odd as it should do  off to england to see the parents and fix a broadband connection/install mail server for my father :P found the url: http://www.squid-cache.org/
