Wn i went to log in i chose the very last choice at the bottom instead of KDE and now all i get is a blue screen with a console box on the right hand side how to i get back to loging in the normal way

What was that choice? Anyway try right clicking on the desktop. On some window managers that brings up the menu.

You can reboot if you type su in the console, give the root password and then type reboot.

Thank for the reply ive done that and all i get is that blue screen and a white box in the corner with my name @local host

in that white box run the command:

mcc

This should bring up the Mandriva Control Center. From here you should be able to add/change your default DM (you're probably using auto login). I can't remember the specific place that these options are in and I'm at work...so hunt around a bit, but they should be there. You could also try just turning off auto login so that you are presented with GDM or KDM and can choose a DE under Sessions when you login.

thanks i looked on the web and found that ctrl+alt+backspace will get me my logon page and i'm back in kde now
