tf1
Hi all I have Samba installed and is now working fine. In configuring samba and experimenting with settings in mount points, i checked the "allow ordinary users to mount the file system" which also checks the nosuid box. Having done that a Remote share link was placed on the Desktop. Reversing this action leaves the link in place, even removing the share doesn't get rid of it. Could someone kindly tell me how to remove them? Using 2007 by the way. Fantastic OS Ted
ianw1974
Not tried it but maybe you can right click and choose delete from the popup menu. This works for normal shortcuts on desktop.
tf1
There is no option to delete or move to wastebin, if i drag them to the waste bin i get permissions denied! If i become root in konsole the links are not visible nor are they visible in root mode krusader. How would i change the permissions to allow me to delete them? ianw1974
Try this from a console prompt: su (enter root password when prompted) cd /home/username/Desktop replace username with your normal username, then do: ls -l to see if you have the files listed. If they are, just do: rm filename to delete the file.
tf1
I think there's more to it than that. If you hover the mouse over them they report as unmounted samba shares and if i look in /mnt they are there as well even though one of the shares have been removed. ianw1974
OK, maybe it's added some stuff to /etc/fstab as well, check in there. /mnt is normally where mount points are created, and what was on your desktop was probably shortcuts to the mount points. tf1
Removing the three lines associated with these shares has removed them from the Desktop, great. they still show up in /mnt which isn't a big problem although i would like to get rid of the pointer to a share that doesn't exist. if i drag it to the wastebin it goes and then comes back any ideas?
