An idiot's guide to connecting to the internet

Can some kind person please type me up an idiots guide to connecting to the net, i have a d-link g624T wireless router and my isp is Toucan. I need to know everything if you dont mind, i think i would learn easier if i could ask questions while in linux.

First you need to know the type of connection, whether it's PPPOA or PPPOE. Then you can set up your router accordingly. Your ISP should have provided you the details, so I suggest you call them!

 

Once the router is up and running, you can then just connect your computer to the router and use DHCP to pick up an IP address for a traditional network connection. Then you'll have access to the internet.

Yes, everything can be configured in the Mandriva Control Center (MCC). When setting up the connection from your network card to the router in the MCC, select the LAN connection wizard.
