We don't know, we don't make the distribution...you should probably ask Mandriva why they didn't make it ;)

 

My guess: because, really, in the end you won't notice any difference. And if you really need to suck all the power out of your system, you shouldn't use Mandriva to begin with.

There is an i686 kernel in there, I forget the name now, but they renamed it to something else. However, it's rather modular, and I couldn't boot my system after, because there were some steps that I forgot to do about sorting booting for the ide controller. Better off sticking with the default, you won't notice much difference.

 

If you want noticeable, use an i686 optimised distro like arch, or gentoo and compile everything. Will take you at least a day to get the system installed with KDE though.
