Volito2 and Mandriva 2007

i cannot make my system recognize my volito2 tablet.

i have installed the linuxwacom package but still it does not detect the tablet.

 

Any help please !!!!!

I have a graphire 4x5 and I've had no luck what so ever with the current release of mandriva. In the past, it has worked very well.

 

With the default configuration applied by mandriva, I can get it to work in relative mode with no pressure sensitivity (pretty useless)

 

If anybody else has a clue.....

 

 

What I have figured out is that the kernel for 2007 once again has a usbmouse module that conflicts with the wacom module. I've had limited success removing both modules and then reloading wacom. However, I have been unable to blacklist usbmouse. I have explicitly placed it in the blacklist file, but it auto-loads anyway.

Okay, I think I've got it nailed down now, the best of luck to anybody who cares.

 

1. go to the linux-wacom site and download/install the latest and greatest version from them.

2. Open up the mandrake control center, go to system>processes and disable harddrake from running at boot, and stop the process.

3. As root "modprobe -r usbmouse"

4. As root "modprobe -r wacom"

5. As root "modprobe -i wacom"

6. As root "lsmod" check the list and make certain that usbmouse is NOT there, and wacom IS there.

7. Blacklist the usbmouse kernel module. I actualy had to do this in two separate places, which was not necessary in the past, but whatever.

7.1 Add the line "blacklist usbmouse" to /etc/modprobe.conf

7.2 Add the line "usbmouse" to /etc/hotplug/blacklist

9. Reboot. Yes, I said reboot, don't just restart X. Take the system all the way down, and boot back up.

 

10. If you're using the Gimp, click edit>preferences>configure extended devices, you should see all 3 wacom devices there.

 

 

 

NOTE******* I have discovered that for most people, /dev/wacom or /dev/input/wacom simply does not exist. Also, using event0 etc can change every time you connect or disconnect a piece of hardware. That's a pain. If you look in /dev/input/by-id you will find simlinks to your input devices which are listed by name. These links may change what they point to every time you plug in a new device, but the links themselves are always there, and never change. Pointing you xorg.conf to "/dev/input/by-id/usb-WACOM_CTE-430-UV3.1-4-event-mouse" the way I did will save you a lot of headache. Of course, if you're using a volito, you'll have a different name to link to, but the idea is the same.
