Guest DStockwell
Upgrading from 2006, I am trying to get 2007.0 to come up. Unfortunately, when I boot, it comes up to a fancy graphical backdrop, but a console window on top (the login: prompt). X has not started, apparently, because when I execute kdesu (from root or from my u-acct), it states "kdesu: cannot connect to X server". Ideas? scoonma
You can type "startx", which should start the X server. You can go to MCC, then choose X server properties. In the options you can adjust to start the server on boot automatically. Cheers, scoonma
Guest DStockwell
I had tried startx, which gave me a blank screen. After finding a way to update (another post: Mandriva website not accessible for mirror list!), I reset the screen colors to 65k. Now things seem to work, for now. Anyway, I am looking for the post about setting startup into X/KDE, or something like that, so it is automatic. Will find it and should be good to go. nchancock
Check the output in /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see what is causing your X not to start/crash. Generally it has to do with your display options and the like.
scoonma
Another place to look at is ~/.xsession-errors.
