Jza
Hi I got iwtools which includes iwlist iwspy and iwconfig. I want to set up a conection to a non-broadcasted ap, this means that a simple search wont display it and I need to set it up. What I need to know is how to manually set up the essid so i can finally get in the ap. Thanks
Qchem
It's a long time since I've had to do this, but IIRC it was simply a matter of putting ESSID="foo" into the appropriate config file for the interface.
Jza
I am sorry which config files are you talking about. Where are they located, I want to get more inside on this since most of the tutorials about iwconfig dont mention this files. iwconfig wlan0 essid='id' didn't worked for me, so that is why I am asking on the forum. Thanks.
diehl
If you are a Mandriva user you can enter the wireless config using mcc/drakconf (as root). Define a new "network profile" and switch to it. The do "Set up a new network interface" and chose a wireless one, and enter the required SSID, WEP, etc in the appropriate boxes. When you are done you can just activate this network profile whenever you want to connect to this specific wireless connection.
ianw1974
Probably would go in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 or something like that.
