Hello everyone.

I'm sick of using windows again and I would like to get back to using Linux. But as soon as I moved into my new apartment i'm unable to connect to the internet.

I am very noobish to Linux and now i'm rusty since I havn't had time to figure it out. I remember I had to screw around with my network config files awhile ago to get it working with my old ISP so that network file is probably filled with my old infomration thats why its not working I bet.

I'm not connected to a LAN or anything, i'm directly connecting to the internet through a cable modem. What would I need to do to connect to the internet? What files do you need to see on my system to better help me?

Thank you.

PS: i'm running Mandriva power pack 2006

A good start would be wghat sort of cable modem you are using?

If you can glean from widonws or your ISP what protocols (pppoe or pppoa) and how you identify yourself...

You can check the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets and other files in the direcotry and see what its trying to use .. this might help you see hwat its trying and give you an idea what to replace it with.
