shengchieh
To All: The printer is not printing. It makes no difference if I am using an application or trying to print a test page in the control center. For test page, I've gone to control center (kcontrol) -> peripherals -> printers -> instances -> test ... A window pops up saying You are about to print a teest page of Canon BJC 1000. Do you want to continue. No problem. I press "Print Test Page". Another window shows up saying Test Page successfully sent to Canon BJC 1000. But nothing happens afterward, i.e., no printing. I know the printer is on and plugged in correctly. What else should I be checking for? Sheng-Chieh
shengchieh
*** bump *** strange. The control center recognizes the printer and I know it prints fine from the old PC. But no printing occurs whether I print a test page or from an application. Any tips? Btw, I'm using KDE 3.4.3 & Mandriva 2006 special edition. SoulSe
I like going directly to cups to set up printers and I find the cups web-admin works really well. Perhaps try setting the printer up in cups webadmin instead?
Bham
You could try and change the printer driver, I had to do this with my printer in mandriva 2007.
shengchieh
Thank you! Went to http://localhost:631/ and added another printer with success. The one Mandriva control center puts in, CUPS complains that the PPD file did not match the printer? [Probably an error on Mandriva's side] Sheng-Chieh
scarecrow
[Probably an error on Mandriva's side] No, it's not. It's an error on Canon driver policies. Most canon drivers do not have FREE support for Linux, for reasons known to the company. There might be a working driver for your printer at the japanese Canon site (certainly not a cups PPD, though...), or you may try the Turboprint demo, which is a cups addon and supports many Canon printers, including yours: http://www.turboprint.info/ With it your printer WILL work, but it will watermark your docs, unless you buy a licence. It's up to you to decide if the price of the driver is worthwhile... Surely enough it's expensive for cheap printers, but (afaik) there is no free solution available- blaim mama Canon for that.
