johnnyv
umm i was refering to jasep when he said "i have the six .pk3 files" he got them via winex install I was just asking if he had check that the md5sums were correct so that he could be sure he wasn't dealing with a corrupt .pk3 file! so there! When you use WineX to run the Windoze installer, you don't ordinarily get a checksum... no you don't but the install doc list the md5 sums! mp_pak0.pk3 62641cffd9a8ad0f62cc1cca867d51f8 mp_pak1.pk3 22b972974f499a237c96a2200b0d019e mp_pak2.pk3 30f29ffa81748a957e0441af8c14cb56 pak0.pk3 ce92b11df889cb0a045762bb5fd7cde5 sp_pak1.pk3 a0d3fe956f85f40c8efd6babe0d09832 sp_pak2.pk3 330b272d5261fe19fcf3c3fbc943c7f3 so do a manual md5sum check eg type md5sum mp_pak0.pk3 and compare the value to 62641cffd9a8ad0f62cc1cca867d51f8 that way you can see if any of the pak files are corrupt! Guest JaseP
Well,... I checked them and they are all fine; [XXXX@localhost main]$ md5sum mp_pak0.pk362641cffd9a8ad0f62cc1cca867d51f8 mp_pak0.pk3 [XXXX@localhost main]$ md5sum mp_pak1.pk3 22b972974f499a237c96a2200b0d019e mp_pak1.pk3 [XXXX@localhost main]$ md5sum mp_pak2.pk3 30f29ffa81748a957e0441af8c14cb56 mp_pak2.pk3 [XXXX@localhost main]$ md5sum sp_pak1.pk3 a0d3fe956f85f40c8efd6babe0d09832 sp_pak1.pk3 [XXXX@localhost main]$ md5sum sp_pak2.pk3 330b272d5261fe19fcf3c3fbc943c7f3 sp_pak2.pk3 [XXXX@localhost main]$ md5sum pak0.pk3 ce92b11df889cb0a045762bb5fd7cde5 pak0.pk3 So,... there is something else wrong... DOlson
Is there any known driver conflict with the default nVidia drivers that come with Mandrake 8.2 and Wolfenstein??? Uhh... Last I checked, Mandrake did not distribute 3D drivers for nVidia cards. You may want to install them and configure X to use them. If you need a tutorial, my webpage has that. http://icculus.org/~dolson/mdkxp/?c=ttrls/nvidiacli
Guest JaseP
The following driver files were from the commercial apps CD on Mandrake 8.2 Power Pack Edition: NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2802.1mdk.i586.rpmNVIDIA_kernel-2.4.18-6mdk-1.0-2802.2mdk.i586.rpm Maybe they are't DISTRIBUTED by Mandrake, but they are supplied... Anyway, those are the ones I have installed and have working... I have no probs with OpenGL...
Guest JaseP
OK,... The multiplayer works... So it's not the system, it has to be something with the game. I never installed the 1.1 version before going and installing the 1.33 version... and the 1.41 update... Do you have to install the 1.1 version first??? If so, where can I find it? DOlson
No, you shouldn't have to. I only install 1.33, then patch up. Did you try getting the full 1.41 or whatever it is, instead of patching up? It shouldn't matter, but sounds like you've tried everything... Weird thing is that I used to have similar problems, but the other way around - I couldn't make multiplayer start. I don't know how I fixed it... It just started working one day. Guest JaseP
I uninstalled RTCW then re-installed it. I got a "gtk mismatch error GTK+ version too old" or something like that,... but the install routine continued... The single player still locks up. Guest joehill
ok, try running the various executables in /usr/local/games/wolfenstein from the command prompt. make sure your terminal will save a couple hundred lines of output, then run the game as you have been. when it locks up, quit or exit if you can, then scroll back through the terminal output and look for errors. this is the proven way to troubleshoot quake probs, it has gotten me out of my quake, wolf and urban terror issues every time. you might want to try strace as well, though I am not an expert in strace. Guest JaseP
I can't get back to my X-windows session at all, when the game locks, it locks the whole X-windows system, including mouse and keyboard support... The game runs fine through WineX, by the way... complete with full hardware support... I'd much rather run it under Linux natively, and that's why I got it in the first place. Guest joehill
I can't get back to my X-windows session at all, when the game locks, it locks the whole X-windows system, including mouse and keyboard support... d'oh! sorry. now, that being said, you should still be able to use a similar method. what you could try is sending the output to a text file so that when you lose X, the errors will be preserved. I am sure DOlson would be very happy if you could run it natively too! I am sorry to keep harping on the terminal output, but as I said previously, it has never failed before to find the problem with games like wolf and quake. for example, I could not get Twilight to run for months, kept segfaulting, finally I was able to go through several hundred lines of output and find that it was crashing because it did not like my hostname (?). other known issues can be things like your XFT font config (usually this is a prob with Red Hat), etc. look at the manpage for strace, or I bet you could try something like wolfsp > errors.txt or something. through all this, I assumed also that you checked the wolf FAQ. Guest JaseP
Ran the strace... No results... Locked up same place... 3/4 through the loading of the 1st level (actually the 1st level's cutscene). Again, multiplayer runs, but not single
Guest joehill
****. I'll see if a bong-hit helps.
Guest joehill
how bout this. we both legally own the game right? I will burn you a copy of my non-game of the year version or the pk3z from my windows install. this is really frustrating. it's gotta be the .pk3 files.
Guest JaseP
It can't be... I have the Win version installed using WineX,... and it runs fine. The checksums are fine... Unless the installer is supposed to be modifying the PK3s and it isn't because of some library file that isn't "up to date", I don't have an answer as to why this is happening...
