If you use the plf stuff, including the nvidia there, your 3D desktop will work just fine. You'll have to grab 2 rpms: the dkms and the nvidia. Of copurse, the kernel sources will have to be installed in order to compile the mod/driver.

thanx for that ixthusdan,

yes the kernel source is installed for the stock kernel 2.6.17.5.mdv

now all i have to do is find the plf repositories !

they don't exist for 2007!

i guess i shall have to add them to urpmi as "2006" ?

thanks again though, i will post back if / when i have it done

regards

reb2,

there was a message on mandriva club, they messed up, for 3d desktop you need some package from disc 5 or 6...

Now those discs have been released to standard clubmembers as well.

I think it was

task-3d

or something like that.

Anyway, it may well be that you can install that after adding the main and contrib repos.

After that, drak3d should work.

Hope this helps!

Edit:

plf repos sure do exist - use easyurpmi, then select 64 bit - then modify a bit to get the 32 bit / i586 version from the same mirror.

Artee is correct. I have a 4 cd set (not 3) and some stuff also was installed along with the sources and drivers. Of course, I used urpmi. I configured the mirrors manually.

ok guys, i gave up in the end, and i am sticking with 2006 for a while longer!

i found out that i had accidently downloaded the wrong one (rc2) and after a while noticed a few problems! :wall::embarassed::whistle:

never mind when i have time, i shall try again

thank you guys again for the help, although i have given up for now, at least others have an explanation as to why their 3d desktop don't work. (so it was not all in vain).

regards and thanx

plf repositories do exist, I'm using them :P

Just connect to your normal plf mirror with an ftp client and find the new path, and then add them using urpmi from the command-line later.

Ok If you read Adam's post in this thread you can read that there's no more Community tree anymore. So easyurpmi and smarturpmi is already setup as it should be except that they don't show updates and plf repos for 2007.

As you can see smarturpmi shows all

release

backports

updates

testing

and

plf

release

backports

The newest version are allways here

http://www.schuetze.homelinux.org/smarturpmi

Then the mirrors of smarturpmi here

http://www.mandrivauser.de/smarturpmi

http://urpmi.mandrivausers.ro

smart-urpmi 1.10 is out

changes:

Mandriva 2007.1 included

unselect the selections

new sort order

non-free tree for 2007.1 included

some cosmetic changes like flags

I think this was faster as fast, the official start of 2007.1 is tomorrow.

More translations are welcome, pls contact me

I noticed that after a clean install, you can just open the mcc, then media manager, then choose 'add' and you just have to pick a server.

It added main-update, main and contrib - without me needing any kind of easyurpmi.

We still need it for plffree and nonfree.

I did not need easyurpmi to add PLF media. I added all media from the "add" button in MCC and just picked a server, voilá. A bit like in Ubuntu. Sweeeet :D

Oops... Answered a post from 2006 there. :wall:

changes:

Mandriva 2007.1 included

unselect the selections

Hmm... Is this possible in 2007.1? Have I simply just missed this feature?

The listed repositories @ mandrivauser.de are what I am currently using. They brought both my laptop and desktop up to "2007.1 official" Unfortunately, EasyUrpmi is not going to be current until the official release, which was delayed for a few days. (Something about an error in the iso. The packages are all good.)
