Lycoris Linux Amethyst Edition

Hi

 

I dug up a "Lycoris Linux" Amethyst Edition CD that I got at a documentary film about linux in about 2001. It was put out by Redmond Linux Corporation - www.redmondlinux.org.

 

I installed it on a Dell GX1 233MHz. I was able to install it onto a 2GB HDD. I used 250 MB RAM, which I reduced to 125 MB after the install.

 

I plan to use this machine just to do shell scripting. I might even remove most of the programs, as all I need is a console, text editor, file manager and a browser.

 

I need help. I have linuxcommand.org-20050121.tar.gz on a CD. I was able to use it on another machine running CentOS 4.0. I pulled it off the CD player and onto the desktop and then used tar to open it. I can now use the file browser to run it in the browser.

 

linuxcommand.org-20050121.tar.gz contains a tutorial, Linux Command Org Learning The Shell. It is all HTML. You can access the tutorial online, or download. I downloaded it, and then put it on a CD. The CD works fine on other computers.

 

How do I do that w/this distro. I have not used KDE much mostly gnome.

 

I can get the folder from the CD to the desktop, but cant open it. The folder disappears after I remove the CD.

 

I want to free up the computer I have dedicated for shell scripting for other experiments.

I think you need mount CDs manually if that CD is that old.

mount /where/the/cd/is

I found Lycoris update CDs here:

http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/lycoris/iso/

 

You might be able to use them to update your Lycoris...
