Gnome or X overloading my system?

start X with gdm, kdm, and startx from init 3, log the results of

ps aux | grep "[X]"

every 10 minutes for 1 hour??? for all three logins after reboots. If the results suck with gdm, give them those results and ask them to explain themselves.

Will see what comes of it shortly, but might do this and add to the report. It's been reassigned to someone else now, probably the X experts.

 

I've provided the output of rpm -qa for the xorg components installed, and will see what the outcome is shortly, and then send the results accordingly later if it's needed.

 

Most of the system will be unusable in 15 minutes anyhow, because when it pages to swap, the system stops responding completely.
