null
I'm not at home now, but I'm pretty sure I get the exact same thing. Since most of us can't run k9copy, does that just mean its a "bad program"?

scarecrow
Works fine here ( kernel 2.6.17.6, k3b 0.12.16, k9copy 1.0.4 ). I might guess that the guy who packed it did that with an older k3b version. Try building it yourself (the k3b devel packages will be needed), it really works great with no crashes at all under my Arch Linux. Just made a shrink out of curiosity (to an ISO image), the shrink was very fast, and the iso mounts and plays just fine. null
dvdshrink (the linux version) and k9copy are the two I am most interested in. The only rip program I got to do anything at all was acidrip. I got an .avi file from the movie title from a dvd. When you have an .avi file on your HD, can you burn a dvd with it... a dvd that will play on a home dvd player? is ".avi" the same as "mpeg4" ?? scarecrow
When you have an .avi file on your HD, can you burn a dvd with it... a dvd that will play on a home dvd player? is ".avi" the same as "mpeg4" ?? Tha answer is a bit complex. Avi is a compressed format (or rather- it isn't a format at all, it is a container), which is mpeg4 compliant. Some home apparatuses will refuse to play avi at all, some will play everything, some will play just avi encoded by divx up to 4.X, some will play divx 4.X plus xvid, while some will play all divx variations but no xvid... it's really messy- the best thing you can do is getting a dirt cheap chinese standalone, costing no more than ten blanks, which can playback EVERYTHING (... and probably break down after a couple of weeks- but you get what you pay for, after all!) null
I think some of these GUI rippers, such as acidrip, are just frontends for mencoder.... I'll check out Gmencoder... Let's turn to k3b: to rip a dvd with k3b you need transcode, an mpeg4 codec, libdvdread, and libdvdcss. I think I have all of that, but I'm not sure about the mpeg4 codec. How do I know if I have one? Does that mean divx4 or divx5 or xvid...? If you rip a DVD9 with k3b, can k3b then burn a blank "dual layer"? ie - no shrinking needed...? ianw1974
Yes, you can burn avi, mpg, or other to DVD but it needs encoding into vob files first. I did this at the weekend, I made a video of my child and then put this on DVD to send back to my parents. Unfortunately, the encoding the video together into one mpg had to be done under Windows as well as the creation into vob files. However, a program under Linux called klvemkdvd will do this for you, but I think it didn't work for me because I screwed the authoring of all the small mpgs into one large mpg in Windows. I've not found a program in Linux that will allow me to combine all the mpgs together with transitions between them as of yet.
uralmasha
you probably found a bug... There is obviously a dependency missing in the PLF package. I don't know how it happens, but lib[64]k9copy is not installed/upgraded with the "k9copy" package. However, if you install that manually, at least the application does not crash at start. I cannot check right now if it rips the disks, too.
ianw1974
Ah nice, I'll have to check this at home later. I'll be able to start using it now :P Many thanks uralmasha
null
yes, thank you uralmasha. I was getting mad at k9copy, but its a urpmi package problem. Can't wait to get home from work and try it out...! Damn, this work stuff is interfering with my fun...
Gul Dukat
what version are you running? I don't know how to tell what version I'm running of k9copy. It won't even load up, so I can't click "About k9copy". Is there another way to tell? rpm -q k9copy As for those crashes, I have no answer for your problem, but K9copy is running oke here. So I'm a little lost here at your problem. Just for the record, did you update your KDE with for example SoS-sources?
ianw1974
Mine is standard 2006, and the errors occur. But will check uralmasha's suggestion when I get home later and see if it's this that's causing it.
