mystified
After doing my updates I can now no longer connect to the internet even using a cable plugged directly into my router. I don't want to have to reinstall. Any suggestions?
SoulSe
Gentoo or Mandriva? If Gentoo, your network script probably got over-written. Follow the steps in the Gentoo handbook for setting up your networking (as if you're doing it for the first time) and you should be back on track. EDIT: I see from your other post that you're probably talking about Mandrive. Same advice really - set up networking in the MCC as if you're doing it for the first time. arctic
I ask now the typical questions (how boring, isn't it?). :) What is the output of "ifconfig", what do you get when you type "ifup eth0" what is the contents of /etc/sysconfig/netwoking-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 (if it is eth0 you are using)? Is the firewall disabled? Are DNS servers set up?
mystified
No DNS servers. Firewall is the NAT firewall in my router. I'm not typing all of ifconfig but the part I'm looking at is eth0 which shows my internet ip. ifup eth0 just says determining IP information for eth0... done. The contents of ifcg-eth0 DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp NETMASK=255.255.255.0 ONBOOT=yes METRIC-10 MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=no USERCTL=yes IPV6INIT=no IPV6TO4INIT-no PEERDNS=yes DHCP_CLIENT-dhclient NEEDHOSTNAME=yes PEERDNS=yes PEERYP=no PEERNTPD=no That's it. And people complain about Gentoo :P EDIT: nm, for the hell of it I decided to try one more time and it worked. /me smacks Mandriva
