tyme
put Linux on the primary IDE connecter, as the master, and put windows on the secondary IDE connect, as slave. The BIOS should pass off boot to whichever hard drive is master on the primary IDE. You may have to force master with the jumpers on the hard drives themselves. If none of that works you can always put both drives in, boot with the Mandriva installer and do the rescue option, there should be something in there about reinstalling grub. aioshin
you can also set the BIOS to boot to the primary drive only and disable second boot to any device.. then if you'll be able to boot to linux, then edit grub and add an entry to boot to XP..
