How to update Mandriva 2006? [solved]

Recommended Posts

No, you only need su once!

So:

su (and enter root password when prompted)
urpmi.removemedia -a
urpmi.addmedia blah blah blah
urpmi.addmedia blah blah blah

each addmedia command is for main, contrib, updates, or any other sources you add, and blah blah blah is all the info for the mirrors your using for the media.

I tend to just use the easyurpmi link at the top of this page, choose main, contrib, updates, plf-free and plf-nonfree and just copy and paste the code into the terminal window one line at a time and add the source. Use compressed index to make it faster, else main and contrib will take ages as they are 25MB each.

It's all in the easyurpmi repositories at the top of this page. plf is software that's either free hence plf-free and not free plf-nonfree. This normally includes nvidia or ati drivers and other such things that aren't free within the distro. Unless you pay and buy their edition that has these closed-source drivers in them.
