jlc
I just upgaded my 4 box to 5 with apt-get upgrade/dist-upgrade which took it from opensolaris build 36-40 which is pretty cool! Anyone that wants to try some of the cool stuff in solaris but like apt-get ala debian/ubuntu than you should check it out :) http://www.gnusolaris.org/gswiki/Download
jlc
All I have to say is WOW! This is very responsive desktop, solaris kernel/dtrace/zfs........ love it! Biggest downside that I like to play in is zones and they don't have support for it :( f-spot doesn't work, missing dbus-sharp, but the dir is still updating with packages. http://www.gnusolaris.org/dapper.status

jlc
How is driver support on Solaris? Good, not as good as Linux, but all my hardware has worked :)

Normal packages available in APT repository: 11882
iphitus
nexenta was looking really good, i loved the setup of the installer and how it utilised screen to provide a terminal and bastet - bastard tetris. nice setup, looks good, seems to work well. but I was dissappointed by the lack of any evident power managment or wpa support. without either of these, it's not much use on my test box - my laptop. There was no documentation for either on the website, none evident in the distro, and I found no packages to provide either in it's repositories. Looks like it's back to linux again. jlc
I should have mentioned that zones have been avaialble and I have used them and they work, cheers Dev's :) http://www.gnusolaris.org/gswiki/ErastBenson/Nexenta_Zones Package count: APT repository: 12007 ... in addition one could run any native Solaris binaries and applications just fine! That might sound like much to most, but if you run Solaris regulary like I do than its very awesome!!! I don't put much stock in distrowatch counter, however this is pretty cool http://uadmin.blogspot.com/2006/07/nexenta...lar-distro.html little review: http://hip2b2.yutivo.org/2006/07/10/nexent...ubuntu-userland Somebody here should install this and review it from a new users percpective that has never touched Solaris or not much anyway.....artic.... ;) ;) Oh, ipy mentioned docs which is true, not a lot there, however you can always look here: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/ Communitys and Projects or look at ubuntu/debian docs Kind of depends on what kind of docs you need I guess. Also, I would run *unstable* to get the latest greatest and goodies, you are running an Alpha so why not eh? arctic
As discussed in a PM: I will take a look at Nexenta soon and write my typical rant later.
aioshin
jlc, are the commands and directory structure of nexenta and the pure Solaris OS the same or there is a slight difference.. or this nexenta is just like linux, but just uses different kernel.. ? Im asking coz, I might encounter a pure solaris system which I have'nt yet as presently...

Some things will be different, kind of like going from one distro to the next. I just burned the live-CD and I am posting from it now.
