urpmi database locked [solved]

ive set up urpmi and used it to install mplayer (all working fine) but now im trying to install j2re but get the following message

urpmi database locked

any help appreciated

Either reboot, or delete by hand the lock file. If I can recall well (not using Mandriva anymore) it's named urpmi.lock and its placed in /etc

I found this on it:

 

killall urpmi urpmi.update urpme rpm urpmi.addmedia
rm /var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK /var/lib/rpm/RPMLOCK

 

The first command will ensure that any urpmi process isn't running. You could always try the second command first and if it fails to remove them, then it would show that a urpmi process is still running. Then you could kill and then remove the files.

ive just tried those commands and this is the message i recieve

 

[root@localhost john]# killall urpmi urpmi.update urpme rpm urpmi.addmedia

urpmi: no process killed

urpmi.update: no process killed

urpme: no process killed

rpm: no process killed

urpmi.addmedia: no process killed

[root@localhost john]# rm /var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK /var/lib/rpm/RPMLOCK

rm: remove regular empty file `/var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK'? y

rm: cannot lstat `/var/lib/rpm/RPMLOCK': No such file or directory

OK, it seems that the only lock file is /var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK, so you are now OK.

try adding a .RPMLOCK (the file is hidden the same as .LOCK)
