Booting in non graphical mode

I have installed LE 2005 on my computer (COMPAQ Presario PIII, 256 Mb RAM every peripheral integrated on the motherbord). My VRAM is 16 Mb. After displaying LILO graphic, the rest of the procedure of booting is in text mode. But when GDM comes, the graphical mode is up again. Although on other computers, it doesn't behave like this. What's matter?

it's possible that for one reason or another the graphical boot mode doesn't work with your video card. i believe somewhere in Mandriva Control Center there is an option regarding graphical boot. Perhaps changing the settings in there will get it working again.

Check in the MCC → System startup section if the boot-display is set to silent or verbose or disabled mode. It should be set to silent mode by default.

PS: Welcome aboard :)
