ianw1974
I'm unsure of how to fix this, see the screenshot.... It displays "aa" instead of lines, is there something I've missed or need to set to get it to work. It's on Red Hat Linux, but my Mandriva and Arch systems are perfectly fine and displayed correctly. scarecrow
Change the font+encoding (e.g. from konsole) to something matching your system settings.
ianw1974
It's a minimal install, so it's completely console based, no X or anything like that. What would I need to change?
ianw1974
I've fixed this now. I figured out what it was in the end. I don't know what made me think of it, but the LANG option was set to "en_GB.UTF-8" and this was the problem. I just changed it to "en_GB", and it worked perfectly fine then. Not sure why it was set to use UTF-8, but never mind :P I had to edit the /etc/sysconfig/i18n file to make this permanent.
scarecrow
It's nice to have your system UTF-8 enabled, but in that case you must use a font under console which does support unicode. Not sure where this setting is in RedHat, though.
ianw1974
I tried installing all sorts of fonts listed in the rpms directory I copied from all the CD's, but didn't help. So not entirely sure, but this fix works well for me :P
