maparus
After a long search I decided on a MSI FX 5500 w/256 MB memory ,128 MB memory interface ,and clock at 270 Mhz. with a 3 yr warranty for $57.99 shipping included. Before I order is there a better choice for a Mandriva 2006 system for the same money? I'm not a gamer System as is: Asus K8V-X 754 MOBO Sempron 2800 64 bit processor 512 MB pc3200 ram PowMax Ultra 400 PS Memorex CD-rom HP CD-writer Seagate 80 G Hard drive Windows XP 32 bit Mindriva 2006 Many thanks maparus Edited March 31, 2006 by maparus
Ixthusdan
Nvidia chip is the best choice, as long as you run the nvidia drivers. (MSI is using Nvidia in the card.)They are easy to install.
scarecrow
Personally I'd pay a little more (about 100$) and get a Geforce 6600LE AGP... All cards in the FX 5200/5500/5600 and even 5700 series are poor performers.
Ixthusdan
Yeah. <looks at fx5200 running in computer> Doom3 looks pretty good to me!! ;)
zachwor
What are you trying to do with the card? If you are looking to just browse the web and run through the command line you might be able to purchase something even cheaper.
scarecrow
<looks at fx5200 running in computer> Regrettably I also own an FX5200/128M, and performance-wise its only marginally better than a five-year old Geforce2 Ti200 that I still have somewhere... Darkelve
You could probably still get that pretty cheap through ebay or another auction site. Lots of gamers are upgrading to newer cards (7800/7900 or x1800/x1900) nowadays. Get one of the 6-series. Personally I'd pay a little more (about 100$) and get a Geforce 6600LE AGP... All cards in the FX 5200/5500/5600 and even 5700 series are poor performers. Edited April 1, 2006 by Darkelve
