Recording problems

Hi

I would like to record on my laptop by using my sound Card.

Currently my soundcard is working fine. As soon as I start using Audacity to record,

it causes my soundcard to stop working. I am not able to use the sound card at all and

then Audacity does not want to function either.

Is there another program I can use, or am I not using it correct.

Do I need diiferent drivers?

start up audacity, go into edit->preferences->audio i/o, and check what devices is set as output...

I tried that.

The problem I have is that it does not detect any devices.

Even if I change drivers of my soundcard.

I will try it anyways. What should I do if I know?

Possible issue with the (f)arts daemon.

Try firing Audacity from another window manager, e.g. IceWM. If it works then it's an arts issue... so stop (within KDE) artsd before firing Audacity.

Another solution would be compiling Audacity to use OSS emulation instead of alsa- I believe Thac had at some time in his repos both audacity-alsa and audacity-oss.

I would start by disabling arts, as scarecrow suggested - if you're using KDE.

To further help us - could you tell us what soundcard (or laptop) you have and if you made any changes to the default ALSA setup of Mndriva? Also, what DE / WM are you running (Gnome, KDE, etc.) and what version of Audacity?

Hi Kowash,

I always use KHdRecord. Its a small programm able to record in ogg, mp3 or wav format. It is also able to count up from a base name, though that previous soundfiles will not be overridden.

I think I got it from sourceforge.net (I´m not sure).

Good luck,

PS: There was a "bug" in the program: the binary files "KHdRecord" and "KHdRecordRemote" were not executable after download. After changing this the program works fine for me.
