I have Mandrake 9.2 installed. My logicalscroll mouse died (I tested it on some other machines) and now I want to get a new scroll mouse working - it does not work plug n play.

I'm not getting around KDE too easily without a mouse and am wondering how I can get this new mouse working?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

Thanks for your help.

See if you can install a package called "mdetect". It try to auto-detect what mouse you have.

Struggling to recover form a recent robbery where I lost all my linux notes. Having problems getting around kde without a mouse, I can get to a shell.

Been looking on rpmfind for mdetect. Found mdetect but do not know if it's good for my distrib (mdk 9.2). Was looking to try and see if urpmi is there but can't figure out the keybpoard shortcuts to open it without a mouse.

I just waste hours and hours trying to do things in linux, it's so frustrating.

Is it USB or PS/2? A special model or generic?

I am not using Mandrake 9.2, but I did do a little googling trying to find posts dealing with 9,2 mouse issues.

A typical xf86config-4 file for Mandrake 9.2 has a section that looks like this:

Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Mouse2"

Driver "mouse"

Option "Protocol" "PS/2"

Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"

Option "Emulate3Buttons"

Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50"

EndSection

What does your xf86config-4 look like?

That snippet should work assuming you have a Logitech PS/2. I have that same mouse and that's what my xorg.conf looks like.

Don't worry, after you use Linux for a while, stuff doesn't break anymore unless you ask it to :P.
