coverup
coverup: try reconfiguring vmware not by directly running "vmware-config.pl", but "runme.pl" from Petr's "vmware any-any" fix script instead... yours is a well-known VMWare issue with several, non-vanilla kernels. Thanks, scarecrow. Now vmmon and vmnet are reported as loaded though I still have no luck with enbling SMB ports... I happened to notice that Shorewall 2 runs the policy script action.DropSMB after it goes through my rules. Could this be a reason? Also, do I need to run samba for this to work? VMWare runs its own samba server, this should be sufficient I would assume.
scarecrow
Yeah, VMware has an embedded samba, embedded gtk2, embedded nfs, embedded... everything- that's why it's some 100 MB compressed.
