Problem trying to get 1280x960 resolution [solved]

Recommended Posts

Recently, I had a trial version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES on my system. It was running 1280x960 no problem.

I've since erased the installation, and now have a full version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS installed. However, for some reason, I cannot achieve a resolution higher than 1024x768. Everything seems to be configured OK, but I can't get it to go any higher.

Here is my xorg.conf, can anyone see anything that is wrong, or anything I can change to get it working again? The monitor is fine, so I'm not sure why it's playing up.

I've actually managed to solve it. The gui configuration utility is pants, and obviously doesn't work.

I switched to runlevel 3, and then ran as root "setup". Then chose the xconfigurator option, which then runs a mini X environment to configure the screen resolution. This utility is the same as the gui configuration utility that I was originally using through Applications/System Settings/Display within Gnome.

Now, I'm able to run 1600x1200 without any problems whatsoever, so not exactly sure what was going wrong. My xorg.conf looks exactly the same hmmmm.
