I am just using the card, not the on board, I mean the nvidia, the problem with the other distos, Is that in ubuntu 5.10 I have typed crtl c on the part that appear Starting hotplug subsystem(because if I dont put crtl c it doesnt go forward that part), then finish installing ubuntu but now is another problem it appears "Falided to start the X server(your graphical interface). It is likely that is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?" I select yes and show me some information that says: "no device detected" and "no screen found" and some other things, and the other one knoppix stops on the part that says autoconfiguring devices, also the cd i think is damaged, but doesnt matter if the other distos dont work, And as I can see you told that I will not have any problem with the hardware, so it is ok to start downloading it, right?, also from where site I can download the lastest cd version of Mandriva for bittorrent not mirrors? Ixthusdan Posted February 11, 2006 Report Share Posted February 11, 2006 Every distro will do better with the nvidia drivers from the nvidia site. Mandriva has them with the distro if you buy it, but the download version does not have them. A generic vesa driver will work to give you a gui until you download and install the nvidia drivers. scarecrow Posted February 13, 2006 Report Share Posted February 13, 2006 My FX 5200 will not work with DVI connection, if anything else than the "nvidia" driver is used. Surely enough it's card-specific, as if the AGP is replaced with another one everything works with no issues. A simple solution is not using X until you install the stock nvidia driver, and another one is using the analog connector until the nvidia driver is installed.
