I´m at a loss I can´t find a download link for Xgl, the Novel site just links to the cvs, where did you get it?

CVS :D

How do you download all the files?

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software_2fXgl

$ cvs -d:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xserver login
CVS password: <hit return>
$ cvs -d:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xserver co xserver

You'll see more instructions there

You can also follow something like this

http://planet.gentoo.org/developers/kingta...n_amd64_and_xgl

You'll also want to get compiz

http://cvs.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/compiz/

http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl

http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz

You pretty much have to build a seperate xserver to play with it.

Also take a look at this

If you really haven't done much building of software from source, I wouldn't really recommend starting with Xserver. :P

Can i ask where you got the wallpaper from?

And do you make all these themes youeself?

I think I got it at deviant art (almost impossible to find anything there), and I'm not sure how it has it's curren name on my hd, so here it is http://kwh.kernow-gb.com/~bvc/images/25080.jpg

Some of my themes are ports

MMX-Mercury-L

BBX-Mercury-L

Xi Albook

TiSkin Classic

Marcintesh_OS-L-Icon-Color_Pack

Marcintesh_OS-L-GTK-Color_Pack

TiCons

Opus3-Gnome

Everything else is mine. Why?

I got XGl running, my screen looks sexy and spinns flips and all that cool stuff ;)

so where's the screenie?

I need to make a video, istanbul keeps crashing after I save some of it, kind of a pita :(

Other than the compiz features:

http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz

I don't think you see a lot different in look, some of the shading and what not looks nice, but visually I think its harder to tell.

My wife thought it was cool when I started flipping the screens and all the compiz features, shes a windows person ;-)

Well, you post them often and make it look easy, i know you're not a newbie but if making a theme is something a newbie can do then i'd like to look into it,

When I did my first port (BBX Mercury) all I had ever done was edit some home photos. I can't say it's easy at first. Just look at all the garbage that is out there. Making things complete, intersting, and usable can be a challenge with gtk and theming kde is far more complicated...I'd never bother with it. It's been said...'you're not the only one that can edit a gtkrc bvc', and I'm not concerning pixmap themes, but even a simple engine theme has to be done right to be good. http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=25557 and I haven't seen anything else near as good. Oh yeah, link has some good smooth engine themes. Earth is included in this http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=34670

So it appears easy because I've done so many. I get sick when I think of the time it too to overcome just a few of many gtk limitaions just to make gnome more enjoyable. Oh well, give it a try. A port it a good way to dive into it, unless you can make your own images, or are just interested in engine based themes. If you make your own images, just make them the same size as the theme you use as a template and ...there ya go.

I found this instruction for mandriva, though it is a bit unclear

http://archives.mandrivalinux.com/cooker/2...02/msg01446.php

What does this mean?:

HOWTO XGL :

create /usr/share/aclocal/dirlist file

add the following line

/opt/fdo/share/aclocal

export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/opt/fdo/lib/pkgconfig:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH"

Am I supposed to create a file named dirlist or dirlist file and which file type?
