Since yesterday I have lost my logout option from the start button. Usually I had three option shutdown computer, restart, logon as another user. Now all I get is "End session for [user]". Any idea on what happened there? Many thanks.

With hacking files I meant: did you open some config files and altered them yourself. I know the problem you encounter only from general problems with the kdebase package (on other distros) or altered user/security settings... so I am a bit unsure what might have caused your system to change since kdebase "should" still be intact. What system security level do you have set as default? It should be set to "normal". If the security settings are set for "high", some functions will not be available for the average user (can be fixed by either chaning the security level /permissions or changing the groups to which your user belongs).
