Guest vyh
Sorry if I'm duplicating ... I posted this on the other board also. :) I'm having an interesting problem with upgrading an old server. Its a dual pentium II (300 Mhz) running on an intel DK440LX MB and has an ADAPTEC AIC 7895 SCSI controller. 512M RAM. I've tried both M8.2 and M9.0 (which I've only started testing) and the result is the same. The system goes through the first stage install OK, and then kicks up its heels and just croaks: excerpt from display ---- Please wait while probing serial ports VERSION file missing failed to get server XF86_VGA16. No such file of directory at /usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps_gtk.pm line 92 GTK warning **: cannot open display :0 at /usr/bin/perl-install/ugtk.pm line 146 install exited abnormally [sad] and then unmounts the file system ... The error doesn't make sense to me, as it goes through the first stage install, and obviously was able to access the graphics card (a S3, I think.) Any help/advise is greatly appreciated ... I've already spent three nights on this ... Cheers, Vera
Guest genetix
Can you give more details as to what happened exactly before the error comes up? Where is the error shown, graphical or text mode?
