Recently my HP Photosmart 7450 has stopped working. Configuring the printer shows no errors regardless if I use MCC or http://localhost:631, but nothing gets printed. If I run hp-toolbox I get this error message:

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 0.9.7)

HP Device Manager ver. 6.0

[ERROR]: Unable to connect to HPLIP I/O. Check and make sure HPLIP is running.

[ERROR]: Aborting.

Running /etc/rc.d/init.d/hplip restart as root returns this:

Stopping hpiod:                                                [  OK  ]

Stopping hpssd:                                                [FAILED]

Starting hpiod:                                                [  OK  ]

Starting hpssd:                                                [  OK  ]

and running /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups restart is even less surprising:

Stopping CUPS printing system:                                [  OK  ]

Starting CUPS printing system:                                [  OK  ]
